The waters of the strait that surrounds Vancouver wash the city’s
shores and protect it from heat and cold, making it a pleasant
place to visit year-round. You can even plan this Canadian vacation
in the wintertime, as Vancouver's climate is unusually temperate
by Canadian standards.
Its winters are the fourth warmest of Canadian cities; it only
has freezing temps an average of 46 days per year. Summer months
are generally sunny and dry, with moderate temperatures. Thunderstorms
are rare, with about four to six per year. Rainfall is frequent
in winter; more than half of all winter days record measurable
precipitation, snowfall much less so, with only 11 winter days
averaging any snowfall, and only 3 days with amounts of 5 cm or
greater. Precipitation varies from about 43 inches at Point Grey
to 137 inches near the North Shore Mountains.
So it’s safe to say no matter when you plan to come and
visit Vancouver, you’ll find weather that allows you to
do some good sightseeing. To help you know what to pack, consider
that Vancouver is a casual town with mild weather year-round;
layers and smart casual clothes will see you through most situations.
