Nearly one million learners have studied at VCC, and VCC continues to serve more than 26,000 learners annually. Our record speaks for itself -- VCC programs and graduates are consistently awarded local, national and international honours.
Building on its tradition of excellence, VCC will continue to enrich the community and the learners it serves through innovative programming and vibrant community and industry partnerships. We will continue to highlight the "community" in our name. The college's strategic plan has been refreshed to reflect its commitment to community. Moving forward we will continue to enhance our program offerings through greater accessibility for learners in the workforce by increasing part-time studies and alternative methods of program delivery, such as online learning.
The expansion of VCC's Broadway campus has begun. In 2008 we will open the doors of a new health sciences building, a building that is fundamental to meeting British Columbia's need for more health-care workers. We are proud to be part of such an important project. Building on the college's pillars of strength, VCC Schools and Centres will continue to expand in response to industry and learner demand.
We will continue to embrace the increasing energy and spirit around the upcoming 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. This unique event will showcase Vancouver and the province of B.C., and will provide students with once-in-a-lifetime learning experiences. With our central location, unique facilities and relevant programming, it is important that VCC and its learners participate in the 2010 Games in a meaningful way.
We are in the midst of an exciting time of growth and change at VCC. Although we have a refreshed strategic plan and a bold vision for expansion and growth, our unwavering commitment to students and the Vancouver community remains the same as it was more than 40 years ago.
