Motors Place
800 Griffiths Way
Vancouver, B.C. V6B 6G1
Telephone ( 604) 899.7400
Since it opened on September 17, 1995, (The hockey home opener
was against the Detroit Red Wings on October 9, 1995 ) General
Motors Place has attracted the biggest names in show business
to its stage and has welcomed more than 10 million visitors through
its doors. In addition, GM Place is home to the Vancouver Canucks
and the Vancouver Ravens. General Motors Place is one of the most
active entertainment venues in North America. In all, General
Motors Place hosts approximately 170 events each year, ranking
it among the busiest facilities in North America.
GM Place will host the ice hockey events in the 2010 Winter Olympic
Games which are being held in Vancouver. These will be the first
Olympic games to use NHL sized ice. This decision was made in
order to maximize the potential crowds and revenue, instead of
building a smaller, temporary venue with the international-size
ice surface, as was done for most other Winter Olympic Games.
General Motors Place was completed in 1995 at a cost of C$160
million in private financing. The arena seats 18,630 for ice hockey
and 19,193 for basketball. It has 88 luxury suites, 12 hospitality
suites, and 2,195 club seats. The arena replaced the Pacific Coliseum
as the main venue for events in Vancouver.
GM Place is located in downtown Vancouver adjacent to B.C.
Place (home of the B.C. Lions CFL football team); seats 19,056
for hockey . Vancouver is serviced by the Vancouver Skytrain's
"Stadium-Chinatown" Station.
General Motors Place's state-of-the-art features include a Bose
sound system that provides acoustics to rival any building in
North America as well as OrcaVision, a new LED Video Display system
manufactured by Daktronics Inc. The system includes a center hung
scoreboard unit incorporating four large 10mm HD ready main LED
screens supported by four corner screens and top and bottom video
rings using 20mm LED technology. The system also includes a 360
degree ProAd LED Video ring around the upper seating bowl. The
building also features highly skilled in-house production, lighting
and rigging crews and outstanding broadcast capabilities.
General Motors Place has received considerable acclaim for its
comfortable seating and superior sightlines. In addition to a
premium "Siemens Club" seating section, the building
offers added privacy and comfort with its suite services. 88 executive
suites are available on an annual lease, with each suite having
the capacity for 14 guests per game or event. Additionally, hospitality
suites may be rented to host large or small groups on a per-event
basis.
The arena bowl can be partitioned into concert modes of 3,500
to 20,000 seats. And at the push of a button the sound system
can be partitioned too, to deliver every word, every note to the
exact area you have defined. Food services and hospitality at
General Motors Place are exceptional. There are 25 concessions,
three restaurants, twelve hospitality suites, beer gardens and
kiosks, are all designed to ensure as exceptional dining experience.
Staff are highly trained and motivated to deliver quality service
and total guest satisfaction at every level.
