Renfrew Elementary has a professional and dedicated group of teachers and support people who are committed to the needs of young people.
Windermere Secondary School is our neighbourhood comprehensive high school. The majority of Renfrew graduates attend Windermere. At Renfrew, we celebrate our many individual differences and take pride in being part of the Windermere family.
School Curriculum
Each school follows the Ministry of Education's provincially-prescribed curriculum. As well, students' educational needs are supported through a variety of services and programs including locally developed initiatives, school resource centres, learning services teams, counsellors, learning assistance centres, English as a Second Language assistance, and access to educational psychologists and speech-language pathologists.
Renfrew is known for its outstanding music program. Every Friday morning we have an assembly where we share our achievements and sing together. Often students perform at this time.
Other clubs and activities include Choir, both primary and intermediate, Student Council - Grades Three to Seven, and School Patrol Grade Six.
Renfrew School houses three special education district classes: Life Skills, Special Remedial, and the Primary Interministrial Day Treatment Program.
At Renfrew, the goal of supporting life long student attitudes and abilities regarding literacy is constant. To improve and enhance this literacy goal, classes participate in Buddy Reading, a Bookworm Morning Club, and a Birthday Book program.
Renfrew School has just become a project school in the Vancouver School Board's Early Literacy Pilot Project. Renfrew is one of twenty schools selected to participate in the project this year. The goal of the project is to increase literacy levels in the primary grades and have "every child a reader and writer by the end of Grade 3" (with the exception of children with learning disabilities). As members of the Early Literacy Project, the entire Primary staff has committed to making literacy a focus in our school for the next five years.
